Sigourney Weaver is not only one of the biggest Hollywood stars of American cinema: she also made history with her first leading role in a feature film. In the cult film Alien: Creatures from Another World, the then thirty-year-old played Lieutenant Ellen Ripley, a female officer who mutates into a tough fighter on board the spaceship Nostromo. With her portrayal, Weaver breaks with the role clichés that had prevailed until then, which only showed women as shrieking, helpless victims or male-adorned accessories on the screen. It was the birth of the action film heroine.
