Master mechatronics technician Karsten Heidelberg and his team from Weener can hardly save themselves from inquiries from the German-Dutch border region. This year in particular, many things are difficult to calculate: The wet weather of the last few months is depressing the mood of many farmers. They are waiting for any suitable window of opportunity to work their land, harvest hay or spread liquid manure.

The NDR report accompanies the butcher and farmer Mirko Lüthje during everyday duties on the farm in Friedrichsholm, Schleswig-Holstein, and very special missions with his favorite tractor, the “Maffy”. While Mirko wanders between overwork and feelings of happiness, son Piet works on his dream career: he takes over the chicken business and the mucking out. Because for both father and son, when machines are involved, even working in muck and mud is fun.
